About Zerene®

Zerene is a biofeedback training system designed to reduce teeth grinding and jaw clenching during sleep. It consists of a custom-made mouthguard, a small sensor called the Moon Module, and a companion app. When the device detects clenching, it sends a gentle vibration that trains your jaw muscles to relax without waking you up.

A traditional mouthguard protects your teeth from damage but does nothing to change the grinding behavior itself. Zerene uses biofeedback to actively interrupt grinding episodes and retrain your jaw muscles so that clenching decreases over time. The goal is to eventually reach Maintenance Mode, where you only use Zerene occasionally rather than every night.

Both, but the primary goal is retraining. Zerene's custom mouthguard provides dental protection from night one. The Moon Module works in parallel to retrain the neuromuscular pattern that causes grinding in the first place. Most users find that protection becomes less necessary over time as the training takes effect.

Zerene was designed by Arash Sabet, a biomedical engineer who was diagnosed with sleep bruxism and rejected the standard mouthguard protocol. After thousands of hours of development and testing with real bruxism sufferers, he built a device that treats the root cause. Zerene has been endorsed by Dr. Scott Parker, DDS, and developed in collaboration with dental and sleep medicine professionals.

Yes. Zerene uses gentle vibration biofeedback and requires no medication, injections, or chemicals of any kind. Zerene can also work along with medications and injections to maximize relief and retraining.

How It Works

Biofeedback is a technique that uses real-time data from your body to help you change a physical behavior. In Zerene's case, the Moon Module detects jaw muscle activity during sleep and responds with a gentle vibration. Over time, your brain learns to associate clenching with that cue and begins relaxing the jaw muscles automatically — even while you're asleep and unaware of it.

Study (Days 1–5): Zerene collects data on your clenching patterns without any feedback. This gives you and your coaching team a baseline to work from.

Training (Days 6+): The vibration feedback activates. Each time the device detects a clench, it sends a gentle cue. Many users see measurable improvement within two weeks, but for some it takes longer.

Maintenance: Once your jaw has learned to relax, you use Zerene only occasionally — during stressful periods or as a check-in. You're no longer dependent on wearing it every night.

The Z-Score is Zerene's nightly metric that helps you understand at-a-glance if your grinding is getting better or worse. It combines the duration and intensity of your biting events into a single number that represents your bruxism activity for the night. Think of it as your nightly report card. As you progress through the training program, you'll see your Z-Score trend downward.

The app categorizes each detected bite as Weak, Medium, or Hard based on the pressure measured in Pascals. This detail helps you and your coaching team understand not just how often you're clenching, but how forcefully — which is important for tracking real progress and identifying triggers like stress or caffeine.

Zerene tracks a full range of sleep metrics, and additional sleep insights will be released in the future. When you get your Zerene, let your coach know that you’d like snoring to be tracked and you may be able to participate in that program on a case-by-case basis.

Comfort and Fit

Most users stop noticing the Moon Module™ within a few nights. At about 10 grams — roughly the weight of two nickels — it's designed to stay out of your way while you sleep. The mouthguard is custom-made from your own dental impressions or scan. It’s thin, soft, and flexible, which makes it more comfortable than the rigid guards most people have tried before, whether over-the-counter or dentist-made.

Zerene is designed to stay secure in all sleep positions for side and back sleepers. The impression kit ensures a precise custom fit. Zerene is not ideal for stomach sleepers.

The kit is included with your Zerene order. You take your impressions at home using the provided materials, then ship them back to Zerene's dental lab. Your custom mouthguard is fabricated from those impressions and shipped to you. No dentist appointments required.

Results

It depends on the person. Many users notice fewer morning headaches and less jaw soreness within the first week, but it's completely normal for the full benefits to take several months. Progress isn't always linear, and it isn't always something you feel right away — that's exactly why the Z-Score trend tracks your results from night one, so you can see the improvement even when you can't yet feel it.

Users who complete the training program typically reach Maintenance Mode, where grinding has reduced significantly and the device is only needed occasionally. Some users report being free of nightly use entirely after a few months. Results vary based on grinding severity, consistency of use, and individual neuromuscular patterns.

Clinical data and real-world use show reductions of up to 98% in grinding activity. Zerene has logged over 57,000 hours of use and interrupted more than 200,000 biting events across its user base.

Your coaching team will actively review your data and work with you to adjust your program if progress stalls. If Zerene genuinely isn't working for you after completing the program, you're covered by the money-back guarantee.

Pricing and Access

A cheap mouthguard protects your teeth tonight. It won't change anything about what your jaw does tomorrow, or the night after. Zerene is a training program — more like a fitness plan than a product. Most users find that reduced bruxism, lower pain, peace of mind, and better sleep are all far more valuable than the cost. For comparison, Botox for bruxism costs $500–$1,000 and needs to be repeated every 3–6 months.

Zerene is a one-time purchase that includes 90 days of full Zerene access (data tracking using the app, coaching support, and the complete training program). After that, a subscription of $29.99 every 6 months keeps your app, your Z-Score data, and your coaching team active.

Technical and Compatibility

The app is compatible with iOS 15.5 and above, and Android OS 7 and above.

Initial setup is done by following the instructions at zerenelife.com/welcome. After setup, day-to-day use and data review are handled through the mobile app.

The Moon Module is designed to connect to the outside of the mouthguard, so the electronics remain outside your mouth entirely. Only the mouthguard itself makes contact with your teeth. However, the Zerene components are made using biosafe materials.

Support

Your coaching team reviews your nightly data, identifies patterns, and provides personalized guidance on your progress. This isn't a chatbot or an automated sequence — it's a small, dedicated team of real people who follow your case. They're available to answer questions, troubleshoot, and help you interpret your Zerene data.

You can reach your coaching team through the Zerene app or via the contact options at zerenelife.com.

After the 90-day data access period you will need to purchase a membership in order to continue to use your Zerene. It costs $29.99 every six months and allows you to continue to access the biofeedback training and coach guidance.

Dental and CPAP Compatibility

Yes! Zerene can be made for the upper or lower teeth according to your preference. You may indicate your desire in the app when you make your impressions

Zerene is not made to fit over clear-aligner style retainers. However, if you wear your clear-aligner-style retainer on your lower teeth you can have your Zerene made for your upper teeth, and vice versa. Zerene works easily with permanent retainers, but they may complicate the impression-making process. Contact us to learn how you can get your Zerene customized with a dental scan instead.

Zerene works by measuring pressure between the teeth. While Zerene can work even when some teeth are missing, it does require adequate tooth surface in order to measure and deliver the gentle biofeedback. If you are missing more than 2 consecutive teeth on one arch, you may consider getting your Zerene made for the opposite arch (lower teeth rather than upper for instance). If you have any concerns we encourage you to reach out to us so that we can help you.

Many Zerene users have found ways to arrange their Zerene so that it works with their CPAP setup. However, it varies greatly on a case by case basis. Zerene ideally needs about 2” of clearance as it comes out of your mouth, although users have managed with setups that allow even less space. If you have questions about using Zerene with your CPAP machine, please contact us.

Zerene can work perfectly, even if you have crowns, bridges, or implants that are in good condition. If you have significant dental work, or dental work that is not in good condition, you may need to consider whether the dental impression process is safe for you. If it isn’t, you may still be able to get your Zerene customized by getting a dental scan from your dentist. In many cases we can find a safe, comfortable, and effective solution for you. Our team can help create a plan and answer any questions you might have.
